We’re more than just a skating club—we’re a community.
Join us and become part of a tradition that celebrates skill, spirit, and connection on and off the ice.

Power up your game.

Why PowerSkate?

PowerSkate is a high-energy, skill-building program developed by Skate Canada specifically for young hockey and ringette players who want to move faster, skate smarter, and play harder. Designed to enhance on-ice performance, PowerSkate focuses on the skating techniques that matter most—balance, control, power, speed, agility, and endurance—through fast-paced, progressive drills that simulate real-game movement and challenges.

Unlike traditional learn-to-skate programs, PowerSkate is tailored to athletes who already have a basic skating foundation and are ready to improve their efficiency and explosiveness on the ice. It’s the same nationally recognized program trusted by NHL greats like Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Mark Scheifele, and Jeff Skinner, all of whom took part in PowerSkate during their early development years. With its strong coaching foundation and proven training structure, PowerSkate gives young athletes the edge they need to skate with skill, power, and confidence.

Who Can Register?

PowerSkate is open to hockey and ringette players aged six and up who meet the minimum skating requirements. Skaters must be able to skate both forward and backward and must be able to stop on command without using the boards. Completion of Stage 4 of CanSkate, or equivalent skating skills, is required. Adaptive and sledge hockey skaters are welcome to participate, provided they have the appropriate equipment. Families unsure about a skater’s readiness may contact the club to discuss further.

Required Equipment

All participants are required to wear full CSA-approved hockey equipment, including hockey skates, a CSA-approved helmet that includes a cage, and all standard protective gear such as gloves, shin guards, elbow pads, and pants. A hockey stick is also required. Skaters will not be permitted on the ice without the proper equipment. For more details on required gear, including helmets, please visit our Helmet Policy page.

Program Structure

The program is offered in two separate 10-week sessions—one in the fall (October to December) and one in the winter (January to March). Each session includes 10 weekly classes that build progressively over time. Skaters may register for either session individually, or choose to register for both to continue their development without interruption. All sessions are led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches with experience in hockey-specific skill development and on-ice performance training.

Payment Options & Financial Support

A payment installment option is available at the time of registration. If your family requires alternate payment arrangements, please contact us at didsburyfsc@gmail.com to discuss further.

Financial assistance may be available through national programs such as Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Individual Child Grants or KidSport Alberta. These programs help families facing financial barriers by covering part or all of the cost of registration fees for children’s sports and recreational activities.

Volunteer Commitment & Fundraising Requirements

Unlike some of our other programs, PowerSkate has no volunteer or fundraising obligations. We know hockey families are already busy, and this program is designed to keep things simple and focused on skill development. There are no raffle booklets to sell, no shifts to sign up for, and no additional commitments beyond showing up ready to skate.

Just register, gear up, and hit the ice—PowerSkate is all about building better skaters, not adding to your to-do list.

Schedule & Important Dates

Classes may be canceled on holidays or due to arena availability. For example, there will be no lessons on Thanksgiving Day (October 13, 2025). We encourage families to visit our Important Dates page for a complete overview of seasonal breaks and scheduling updates.

We’ve designed this page to give you everything you need to know before registering for PowerSkate. If anything’s unclear, or you need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at didsburyfsc@gmail.com. We’re happy to help you get started with confidence.

As one of our more challenging seasons comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize some of the support that helped us through it.
Thank you to the Town of Didsbury for selecting the DFSC as a recipient of the 2024 Community Grant Program.
This funding played a key role in helping us transition to new locations for the second half of our 2024/2025 season to continue offering programming for our senior skaters.
We appreciate the Town’s ongoing investment in youth sport and recreation.
Looking forward to getting back on home ice this fall.
