PowerSkate is now offered at two levels, giving skaters the right mix of challenge, support and focused instruction for their age and ability.

JUNIOR POWERSKATE

ADDITIONAL FEES/COSTS
Skate Canada Membership Fee
$63.70
This mandatory, non-refundable fee is applied to all skaters annually. It covers Skate Canada registration, insurance, and participation in sanctioned programs and events.
This fee is regulated and enforced by Skate Canada, and includes:
- Safe Sport Fee - $5
- Skate Canada Registrant Fee - $30
- AB/NWT/NU Section Registrant Fee - $28
- Inquiry Benefit - $0.70
Why PowerSkate?
PowerSkate is a high-energy, skill-building program developed by Skate Canada specifically for young hockey and ringette players who want to move faster, skate smarter, and play harder. Through fast-paced, progressive drills, skaters develop the balance, control, power, speed, agility and endurance needed for game situations.
DFSC now offers PowerSkate at two levels so skaters can train with others of similar age, experience and ability. Junior PowerSkate builds hockey and ringette skating foundations—including athletic stance, stride, stopping, turning, backward skating and quick changes of direction—while Senior PowerSkate helps more experienced skaters refine technique, correct inefficient habits and develop greater power, speed and control.
Unlike a traditional learn-to-skate program, PowerSkate is intended for athletes who already have some independent skating ability and are ready to improve the quality and efficiency of their movement on the ice.
Who Can Register?
PowerSkate is open to hockey and ringette players who meet the minimum requirements for their selected class.
Junior PowerSkate
Junior PowerSkate is designed primarily for U7 and younger players, as well as newer or developing U9 players who would benefit from a smaller, half-ice class. Skaters should be able to skate forward and backward independently, and demonstrate basic stopping ability.
Senior PowerSkate
Senior PowerSkate is designed primarily for U9 and older players with more established skating skills. Skaters should be comfortable skating forward and backward and demonstrate basic crossovers and stronger stopping ability.
Age divisions are intended as a general placement guide. Experience, ability and current hockey or ringette level should also be considered when selecting a class. Coaches will assess skaters during the first class and may recommend a different level when it would provide a better learning environment.
Families who are unsure which class is the best fit are encouraged to contact the club before registering.
Schedule & Important Dates
Classes may be canceled on holidays or due to arena availability. For example, there will be no lessons on Thanksgiving Day (October 12, 2026), or on Remembrance Day (November 11, 2026). We encourage families to visit our Important Dates page for a complete overview of seasonal breaks and scheduling updates.
Program Structure
PowerSkate is offered in two separate fall and winter sessions, with Junior and Senior class options available each season.
Junior PowerSkate runs on Wednesdays from 6:15–7:00pm The fall session includes 10 weekly, 45-minute classes, while the winter session includes 9 weekly classes. Junior PowerSkate is offered in a smaller, half-ice class format to provide developing skaters with more focused instruction.
Senior PowerSkate runs on Mondays from 6:55–7:45pm Both the fall and winter sessions include 10 weekly, 50-minute classes. Senior PowerSkate uses the full ice surface to support higher-speed drills, longer skating patterns and more advanced skill development.
Skaters may register for the fall session, the winter session or both. Each session builds progressively over time and is led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches with experience in hockey-and ringette-specific skating development and on-ice performance training.
Participants in the PowerSkate program will NOT take part in DFSC’s year-end Carnival.
Payment Options & Financial Support
A payment installment option is available at the time of registration. If your family requires alternate payment arrangements, please contact us at didsburyfsc@gmail.com to discuss further.
Financial assistance may be available through national programs such as Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Individual Child Grants or KidSport Alberta. These programs help families facing financial barriers by covering part or all of the cost of registration fees for children’s sports and recreational activities.
Volunteer Commitment & Fundraising Requirements
Unlike some of our other programs, PowerSkate has no volunteer or fundraising obligations. We know hockey families are already busy, and this program is designed to keep things simple and focused on skill development. There are no raffle booklets to sell, no shifts to sign up for, and no additional commitments beyond showing up ready to skate.
Just register, gear up, and hit the ice—PowerSkate is all about building better skaters, not adding to your to-do list.
