PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

At the Didsbury Figure Skating Club (DFSC), we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment where all skaters can grow in skill and confidence. As a parent or guardian, I understand that my conduct plays a vital role in shaping my child’s experience in the club and in the sport of figure skating more broadly.

This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all parents/guardians of skaters registered with DFSC and Skate Canada. By registering with the club, I agree to uphold the values of respect, safety, positivity, and integrity in all club-related activities and environments.

General Responsibilities

  • I will support my child by providing a stable, loving, and encouraging environment.
  • I will help my child maintain a healthy balance between skating, school, and other activities.
  • I will celebrate effort, skill development, and progress over competition outcomes.
  • I will avoid comparing my child to others and instead focus on their individual growth and goals.

Conduct & Communication

  • I will model positive, respectful behaviour at all times—both in person and online.
  • I will refrain from using profane, insulting, harassing, sexist, racist, or otherwise disrespectful language or behaviour.
  • I will support my child, their coach, and DFSC officials by communicating openly, honestly, and respectfully.
  • I will follow the 24-hour rule and allow emotions to settle before addressing any concerns with coaching staff or club volunteers.
  • I will follow appropriate communication channels to resolve concerns:
    • First, I will speak privately with my child’s coach outside of lesson times.
    • If the issue remains unresolved, I will bring the matter to a DFSC board member in private.

Respect for Coaches & Officials

  • I will trust the judgment and professionalism of DFSC coaches and officials.
  • I understand that the coach is responsible for my child’s on-ice development.
  • I will not interfere during practices or events, and I understand that parents are not permitted on the ice.
  • I will accept the coach’s decision regarding test readiness and competition entries.

Volunteering & Club Participation

  • I will stay informed about DFSC policies, fundraising expectations, and volunteer commitments.

Safety & Facility Use

  • I will ensure my child wears appropriate skating attire and properly fitted equipment.
  • I will respect all club rules regarding change room access. (e.g., the DFSC StarSkate change rooms are designated FEMALE ONLY—no male guardians permitted inside).
  • I will support the enforcement of DFSC and Skate Canada safety rules, including the Helmet Policy.

Ethical Standards & Technology Use

  • I will never provide alcohol, drugs, or performance-enhancing substances to minors in a Skate Canada environment.
  • I will not record or photograph another child without prior consent from the club.
  • I will not use social media or technology to disrespect, harass, or exploit others.
  • I will avoid any behaviour that could bring DFSC, Skate Canada, or the sport into disrepute.

Commitment to the Code

By registering with DFSC, I agree to conduct myself in alignment with this Parent Code of Conduct at all club practices, events, competitions, and functions. I understand that failure to comply may result in disciplinary action in accordance with DFSC and Skate Canada policies.

As one of our more challenging seasons comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize some of the support that helped us through it.
Thank you to the Town of Didsbury for selecting the DFSC as a recipient of the 2024 Community Grant Program.
This funding played a key role in helping us transition to new locations for the second half of our 2024/2025 season to continue offering programming for our senior skaters.
We appreciate the Town’s ongoing investment in youth sport and recreation.
Looking forward to getting back on home ice this fall.
