SKATER CODE OF CONDUCT

The Didsbury Figure Skating Club (DFSC) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where all skaters—regardless of background or ability—are encouraged to grow, thrive, and represent the club with pride. Whether participating recreationally or competitively, all skaters are expected to uphold high standards of conduct both on and off the ice.

This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for ALL SKATERS registered with DFSC and Skate Canada. By joining the club, you agree to uphold the values of respect, safety, positivity, and integrity in all club-related activities and environments.

Respect & Sportsmanship

  • I will treat fellow skaters, coaches, parents, officials, volunteers, and staff with dignity and respect at all times, including on social media.
  • I will demonstrate good sportsmanship—skating with class, being gracious in victory, and accepting setbacks with maturity
  • I will follow the instructions of coaches, officials, and club volunteers without argument or complaint.
  • I will respect all facilities, dressing rooms, and equipment used by the club and keep shared spaces clean and orderly.
  • I will abide by all rules set by DFSC staff and volunteers at practices, competitions, and club events.

Responsibility & Integrity

  • I will be punctual and prepared for all lessons, sessions, and events. If I am unable to attend, I will inform my coach or a board member.
  • I will honor my commitments and strive to be a reliable and trustworthy teammate.
  • I will not use cell phones, earbuds, or other distractions on the ice unless approved by a coach.
  • I will not use or possess illegal substances, alcohol, or banned substances in any Skate Canada or DFSC setting.
  • I understand that if I am injured or ill, and a coach believes I am not in a condition to perform safely, I may be withdrawn from an event or session.

Safety & Ice Rules

  • I will follow DFSC’s Ice Rules, including: giving right of way to skaters in a lesson, performing a solo, or skating to music; participating in stroking sessions as they are essential to my development; moving quickly out of the way after a fall to avoid collisions; practicing only the discipline scheduled unless I have coach approval.
  • I will wear a helmet if required under Skate Canada’s helmet policy or as determined by DFSC.
  • I understand that the dressing room is a shared space and must be kept clean and respectful. Only female skaters are permitted in the female change room—NO MALES.

Anti-Bullying Policy

DFSC has zero tolerance for bullying in any form. Every skater has the right to feel emotionally and physically safe at the rink.

Bullying may include, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse, name-calling, teasing, or offensive remarks about appearance, identity, religion, or skill level.
  • Cyberbullying or the sharing of harmful messages or images through social media or electronic communication.
  • Physical aggression such as pushing, tripping, slapping, or other harmful actions.
  • Purposeful exclusion or gossip intended to harm others.

Disciplinary Actions for Bullying or Serious Misconduct

  1. First Offense: Name reported to a coach or DFSC board member. Skater meets with head coach. May be placed on probation.

  2. Second Offense: Parent meeting required. Loss of practice privileges and/or competition eligibility.

  3. Third Offense: Expulsion from the club, pending review by DFSC leadership.

Commitment to the Code

By agreeing to this Code of Conduct, I acknowledge the importance of these values in creating a positive, respectful, and safe skating environment for all. I understand that failure to comply may result in disciplinary action and could affect my standing with the Didsbury Figure Skating Club.

By signing this policy during registration, members confirm that they have reviewed the above Skater Code of Conduct with their child and, as the parent or guardian, accept and agree to the terms outlined. Members will acknowledge their role in supporting their child’s understanding of and adherence to the safety and conduct standards of the Didsbury Figure Skating Club.

As one of our more challenging seasons comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize some of the support that helped us through it.
Thank you to the Town of Didsbury for selecting the DFSC as a recipient of the 2024 Community Grant Program.
This funding played a key role in helping us transition to new locations for the second half of our 2024/2025 season to continue offering programming for our senior skaters.
We appreciate the Town’s ongoing investment in youth sport and recreation.
Looking forward to getting back on home ice this fall.
